B'Aylana is a licensed minister through the Correllian Nativist Church, Inc. and Universal Life Church. She will gladly work with individuals, couples, or "constellations" to create a meaningful ceremony for handfastings, cross-overs, wiccanings, blessing/birthingways, wo/mannings, and croning or sagings. B'Aylana is supportive of the GLBT and Poly communities. We also offer ministerial counseling in the form of one-on-one discussion, Tarot Divination and Guidance, guided meditations, and ritual or spell work.
Code of Ethics and Boundaries by B’Aylana
MAKING ETHICAL CHOICES: Because life and nature are ever-changing, growing, and evolving, so too are our relationships with fellow human, plant and animal life. Ethical awareness is an active process and requires constant mindful awareness of the ethical implications of our actions. Acknowledging this, I will frequently evaluate my thoughts, desires, feelings and rationalizations. I will confront ethical dilemmas with the charge I was given at initiation: “keep pure your highest ideals and strive ever towards them.” To live an honorable and virtuous life, I will aspire to apply the Pyramid of Power to my actions each day: To Know, To Will, To Dare, To Keep Silent. Air - To Know: I will be mindful of the implications of my actions. Justice will remind me of what I owe to myself and to others. Fire - To Will: I will be Courageous and not let fear prevent me from right action. I will work for the causes that ignite passion in my soul. Water - To Dare: I will remember the lesson of Temperance: All things in moderation and none to excess. This requires faith and trust in my own abilities as well as in the grace and gifts of the Goddess and God. Earth - To Keep Silent: I will exercise Prudence, practical wisdom, in determining my actions. This document is intended to serve as a guide and assistant in the ethical-decision-making process and may evolve, as do all things, throughout my life and ministry.
PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS I will continually seek training to better my skills at connecting with the Divine and priestessing to others and myself in order to avoid stagnation, decay, burnout and compassion fatigue. I will honestly evaluate my professional, emotional and spiritual resources to serving others and refer individuals to appropriate professionals when their needs exceed my own competencies. I am accountable for my own actions. I will assume responsibility for my ethical transgressions. I assert that inaction in the face of an ethical violation by a peer is, essentially, an unethical action and will hold myself accountable for lack of appropriate action. I will seek to fill my needs of affirmation and self-esteem from family and an equal peer group and not those I mentor or counsel. I assert that self-care is essential to maintaining high quality professional service. I will frequently use tools such as the Self-Care Assessment Questionnaire to evaluate how well I am maintaining self-care. My role as a Pagan minister is to aid others in connecting to the Divine and discovering their own beliefs and not to impose my beliefs onto them.
INFORMATION DISCLOSURE I will honor individuals who gift me with their private concerns by keeping their information confidential unless the individual’s life is endangered or the individual is endangering another’s life. In these circumstances, I will contact the appropriate authorities. As a counselor and priestess, I will inform those I serve of my professional standards, skills, and abilities as well as my limitations and boundaries. As a teacher and mentor of Wicca, I will take on only as many students as my time and abilities allow. I will only undertake the spiritual mentorship of a minor after a disclosure of my spiritual beliefs to his/her legal guardians and have their express permission.
HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS Dual relationships are inherent in Pagan communities due to the nature of our traditional religious groups. I assert that dual relationships can be both beneficial and detrimental to relationships. Pagan leaders and ministers must navigate these relationships with the intentions for benefiting those they serve. Due to the inherent imbalance of power, sexual interaction when serving as mentor, priestess, or counselor is utterly inappropriate. Sexual or romantic interaction with a person I formerly served in that capacity is highly suspect. Before entering into such a relationship, I would seek counsel from a peer and reflect deeply on my motives. When in a relationship as mentor, priestess, or counselor I will also reflect deeply on the needed boundaries as friend and confidante on an individual basis, recognizing each person will have different needs from their mentor . I will seek to fill my needs of affirmation and self-esteem from family and an equal peer group and not those I mentor or counsel. Although I intend to primarily serve the Pagan community, I will not reject a person seeking my assistance based on gender, age, race, sexual orientation, religion, or national origin.
RELATIONSHIP TO SELF I will care for my body with healthy food and exercise, my mind with continual intellectual challenges, my heart with honorable relationships, and my soul with repeated connection to the Divine. I have inherent worth and dignity as a part of the Divine manifestation. I will not judge my self-worth on the success or failure of a single event. Rather, I will use the information to determine what I could do differently in the future. In my pursuit of self-knowledge, I will not forsake my various tribes, and remember that my Self is defined by my many relationships.
MAGIC Magic and divination take many forms and serve many purposes in Pagan life. I will use magic in my ministry for the good of all involved. Recognizing that I may not be able to see what the good of all truly is, I will use divination as a tool for revealing elements of a situation that I have overlooked or ignored. Magic and divination will not take the place of physical action, self-reflection or investigation but will be used in concert with it. I will not use magic to hex, curse, or influence another's free-will. |
